Every time Miss J wakes up crabby with her standard bed-head curls poking every which way, I have visions of Medusa (enhanced just a tad by Photoshop, above). My sister calls her "crusty," and that is the perfect word for my baby in the morning — she is a Don't-touch-me-don't-talk-to-me, snarky little thing. Until after her Fruity Pebbles or peanut butter toast, that is.

Sunday, March 29th, 2009This is what I saw when I walked into the garage earlier this week:
The neighborhood cat sneaks into the garage while I'm unloading kids and groceries then naps on my warm car hood. I never know this at the time, because she is quite sneaky. Oh no, I find her when I go take out the garbage, and glowing yellow eyes are staring at me.
I feel like my family has joint custody of Ellie the cat. My kids LOVE her and anxiously wait for her to visit, always reminding me that it's my cat allergy keeping us from having one of our own. My husband sneaks her Friskies. She has regular play dates in the backyard with Lulu — it's hilarious to watch our dog frolicking in the grass with his cat friend.
I've had babysitters let her in the house because she's camped on the doorstep. I've had clients warn me that the cat is waiting by the garage. It cracks me up, and reminds me of the movie Uncle Buck, when John Candy chases down the cat, only to hear,"We don't have a cat!" We have found her sleeping in the boat, the wagon, the spare car seats, and on top of the Sequoia, as pictured above. And as a reminder to my family who dotes on her, "WE DON'T HAVE A CAT!"
A boy and his bear

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009I love the first wobbly, wiggly steps that babies make. I love the clomping, deliberate steps as they concentrate. I love the surprise on their faces as they do it, then drop with a big ol' plop. Little L is soooo there. She's so ready and probably fully walking just these few days after our session.
Her family is going to be EXHAUSTED, let me tell you. She is going to be everywhere and into everything, and without a doubt the daredevil of the family. I saw it clearly, hidden behind those sparkly eyes and chubby cheeks. Hope that house is babyproofed for this girl!
This was a three-outfit session (like a five-star rating for a first birthday session), even with raw gums and a bunch of teeth popping. Take a peek:

Monday, March 23rd, 2009A sneak peek for this Booker T. Washington almost-grad who is counting down til the big day:
I can't resist a shot with cool kicks:
It was a windy, windy day at Woodward. E and her lil' sis were eating hair for the outdoor portion of our shoot, but it's all good — got some great shots (along with a few windblown looks as well).

Saturday, March 21st, 2009Movie Challenge
Thursday, March 19th, 2009I joined the Blockbuster online/mailing service that ships you movies, since I spend a fortune on kid movies. It has definitely saved me money (or at least made me less bitter about spending on repeat rentals of Max & Ruby and Scooby Doo cartoons).
Now that Big B enjoys movies with a plot, I've been ordering all kinds of great 80's movies and introducing my second grader to the flicks of MY school years. His favorites: Pee Wee's Big Adventure (remember Large Marge?) and Teen Wolf. My faves: Goonies and Karate Kid.
My challenge for YOU: Help us add to the list of must-see movies. Leave a comment below with your suggestions and we will add them to our watch list!
Little Man
Tuesday, March 17th, 2009More two-year old fun. This little man was so good! I think he looks like a hip little banker or business man in his tie and button-down shirt. I even dusted the briefcase off for the occassion, and love the results:
And some in color:
Could he be any cuter? Check him out a year and a half ago:
He is also a Husker, which makes him even more appealing! Next session for this family will involve a NEW baby — can't wait for another set of chubby cheeks from this crew.
The dog’s name is Missy
Sunday, March 15th, 2009My mother-in-law gave my daughter a stuffed dauschaund that looks exactly like our Lulu. So Miss J decided to name it Missy. Which could be considered flattering, assuming she loves me so much that she decided to name her new friend after her mother.
The only problem is, the Miller family (not me, the family I married into) has a LONG history of naming dogs Missy. Fifty percent of them, in fact. The other half have been named Molly. It is sad but true. My mother-in-law just alternates the naming, and I can recall a couple of each in the decade I've been a part of the family.
The last Missy was a scrawny, white, scared looking little dog, whose haircuts made her look like she ate the electrical socket for lunch. My husband thought it was hilarious, and used to call that strange Missy dog over and over just to annoy me ("Here, Missy…."). The last Molly was a gray schnauzer with the same electrical socket haircut.
Therefore, the naming of Missy hurts a bit. On the upside, I think I've convinced Miss J that Lulu is an excellent name for both her real dog and her play dog. Let's hope it sticks!
