My Man is Five

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

My E-Man is five today.  I cannot believe that I have another baby going off to Kindergarten in the fall.  We had a bowling birthday party last weekend while Grandma and Grandpa were in town, and had a blast (picture below). Today will be more low key with a special dinner and cake & ice cream for dessert.

Five Tidbits about my five year old:

1. He is an early riser.  E wakes up between 5:30 and 6 am every day without fail (365 x5= whole lot of TOO early mornings).

2. E is an outdoor kid.  He baits the fishing poles, jumps in mud puddles, and rides bikes til he drops.

3. He was born in the middle of a wild thunder storm and we worried my mom's flight would not be able to land in Tulsa.

4. He has a dozen different versions of this crazy shake-your-booty dance and is always busting a move.

5. E-Man has more personality than anyone I know.  He is naturally goofy, silly, sweet, entertaining, charming, and oozes happy vibes from his pores.

At 12 hours old (he came out perfect and round and adorable and posed for me immediately, which is when my photography hobby became an obsession):

He let loose!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

We had a break through moment this weekend with my little friend, D: he totally let loose and decided that I was a decent playmate.  Out came the smiles and giggles and belly laughs.  It was like a personality explosion!  D has been very reserved this first year in regard to portraits.  His big brother hams it up, but he had really not crossed the line from polite grins to genuine smiles.  I am so glad his mom persevered, because these portraits show his spunk (and those delicious curls):

Daddy is a high school soccer coach and I think kicking came before walking! Serious strength in these little legs:

If there were an award for the wettest, widest, sloppiest, juiciest kisses ever, D would be an Olympics Gold Medalist:

Steph, using the kid pulls a name from a hat method.  I will email you with details.  Thanks for playing!

Mom Lovin’

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I love catching up with all the men in my life.  The man of the hour happens to be blonde and beautiful and always gives me smiles.   He's still in diapers, drools, & lives with his parents,  but I can deal with it.

His mom is such a good sport and took some portraits with the men in her life with Mother's Day so close:

E has learned independence and put his monkey skills to work on every chair and stool I own:

Can't wait to finish the gallery on these.  This photogenic babe and his big brother never disappoint!

An old friend

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

An old friend stopped by today….the sun.  We have had so much rain in the last month (over 20 days) that it's ridiculous! My backyard is a swamp, the soccer fields have puddles that look like ponds, and I'm so sick of buckling car seats in the rain.  Thank you, sun, for making that very brief yet welcome appearance today.

Have a great Sunday, moms!

Two-fer

These two came today for portraits and have both grown so much! Little G is growing into a pull-up-and-move-everywhere baby, and Miss A turned two recently.  They were both champs even with a clothes change, and let me try out my new posing chairs.

A New One

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Seven days new, in fact.  This pretty little week-old baby was so cooperative.  The very best time for newborn portraits is in the first 14 days of life when babies are still scrunchy and new and sleepy and just go with the flow. Newborns' looks change so quickly, so capturing those early days is important.

Isn't she delicious?

New babies are irresistible for at home photo shoots, especially with a first baby.  A few tips for getting better results with point and shoot cameras:

*Simple backgrounds: throw a blanket over the couch, car seat, or bouncy seat for a simple, solid backdrop to place the baby on.

*Use window light: Make use of the natural light coming in the windows.  Less flash and more natural light makes for prettier pictures and better skin tones.

*Get close: Capture all the newborn features that quickly change: tiny ears and toes, newborn fuzz, umbilical cords, and itsy bitsy diapers
