Polaroid Fun

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

I distinctly remember my Grandma buying a Polaroid camera and making our family pose for trial pictures.  I have seen the results hundreds of times in our family photo albums.  I've been playing "name that date" in my head, and think it was about 1983 (a conclusion based on the fact that I was wearing a Smurfette shirt, not yet taller than my little momma, and had braided piggies down to my booty).

My Grandma was always the pioneer with new "toys", and the Polaroid was new to us.  She also had a ginormous microwave oven back when they were the exception, not the rule.  She bought a video cassette recorder as soon as they hit the market, and was certain that BetaMax was going to change the world.

When I saw a posting about Polaroid conversions on a photography blog, I had to play a little, because Polaroids bring back great memories of life with pig tails and of my Grandma.  You can play too at http://www.rollip.com/, with free downloads!

I converted some shots from our zoo trip last weekend and love the casual vibe:

"Give me a cup of coffee, I'm almost a MAN!"

Music

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

I constantly find myself describing my moods in terms of music  – right now I'm in a Steve Miller Band kind of mood.   Early in the morning, pre-caffeine,  my mood is typically The Fray or The Wallflowers.

Different activities mean different music in my world. Working out means Pink or Avril to get me moving; goofing with the kids translates to 80's one hit wonders; chillaxin with my man and a glass of wine is Coldplay or Maroon Five; proofing at midnight is Gin Blossoms, 3 Doors Down, and All American Rejects to keep me motivated.

When describing my kids and their very different personalities, my mind tends to go to music too.  My oldest son is very Billy Joel ; my middle child is Tone Loc or Bare Naked Ladies; my youngest is Alanis Morrissette.   My dog is usually Violent Femmes, all frantic and wild and 90 miles-an-hour.

Music makes me happy. I am completely tone deaf, but that does not stop me from singing along to the tunes on my iPod or on Sirius in the car (dont' know how I ever functioned without satellite radio?)Who sings the soundtrack to your life?
