She Got Her Ears Peeled

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

After years of waiting and debating, my girlie got her ears pierced over the weekend.  In preschool, Miss J decided that she wanted her ears peeled like her pretty friend.  In Kindergarten, she still wanted her ears peeled.  In these first few weeks of first grade, she has been lobbying non-stop to have her ears pierced.  At the mall.  At that big girl store.  On a girl date.  With no stinky brothers.

I gave in, not because she finally found the correct word, but because we think she really is responsible enough to clean them regularly.  Miss J was as decisive as always, quickly picking the “March” birthstone earrings of light blue (a June baby who can’t read yet).  She sat fearlessly in the chair, and refused to hold the bear because six is way too old for teddy bears.  No tears or hand holding for my independent girl.  There were many, many peeks in the mirror over the weekend to admire her new look, though.  I, too, have fallen in love with the new look of my big girl!

And one more color shot from the big day:

Wild About First Grade

My girl is so ready for first grade! She is bursting with excitement, especially after visiting the classroom for registration and meet-the-teacher.  Here she is reading our favorite books:

Purple

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

My daughter has declared herself an anti-princess: she does not like princess things and will no longer wear pink.  Purple, however, is totally acceptable.  This session was for her sixth birthday back in June.   I love these images, especially the ones with the cape.  Because some girls can be superheroes rather than princesses!

The ONLY way that my man will ever wear a tie by choice:

Zebra Print

Zebra print suits Niece #2.  She is a bold and bright kind of girl!

Thirteen

My niece is officially a teenager.  She is also officially taller than I am.  Don’t you think thirteen looks beautiful on her?

Miller Kids

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

Every Easter, I take portraits of my own kiddos.  I shot these in April, but am a bit behind in blogging and printing.  My gang is always impatient and annoyed during photo shoots with me, because I *might* make them pose too often.  This location is tucked away behind the playground of our neighborhood park.  The reward (playing and basketball) was soooo close that this session was actually a success.

Wedding Dresses

Friday, June 29th, 2012

I unboxed my preserved and cleaned wedding dress after a decade in the closet because of Pinterest.   I was inspired by a “while the kids are young” parenting checklist, with a suggestion to photograph your little girl in your wedding dress to display at HER future wedding.  Brilliant!  So out came the wedding dress, beaded tiara, veil, and shoes.  I’m embarrassed to admit the box still had a moving label on it (from 2002).

A friend saw this same concept at the same time, so we had one big wedding dress up party!  The S girls ALWAYS bring the party.  They played obnoxious girl songs,  brought gobs of accessories and boots, and styled hair like professionals.   Our friends were a bit more tolerant than my girlie, who was annoyed with the two hardware clamps it took to hold to bodice of dress closed.   The result is some bridal goodness to display {hopefully} decades from now!
