Elf on a Shelf

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Our Elf on a Shelf, Lil’ Red, has been with the family for four years now.    If you don’t have an elf, I highly suggest adopting one to keep behaviors in check during the month of December (he sees and hears everything).  Lil’ Red has been a bit naughty this year, playing poker, going on a date, starting a snowball fight, and stealing our favorite Christmas book!

A Good Lookin’ Rainbow

My new favorite shot of the cousins (ages 12, 11, 8, 7, 7, 5).   Guess what Grandma’s getting for Christmas?

11….going on 60

I love this kid!  Big B turned eleven this September, but he has always been an old soul.   He is perfectly comfortable in buttoned up shirt and tie, and spared me ten minutes to document his eleven-ness.

Thankful

Thanksgiving is a happy holiday for me!  I love Thanksgiving and the entire fall season.  Here are some thankful thoughts for the season, from yours truly.  Enjoy your turkey, everyone!

I am thankful ….

* to be a stay-at-home-mom.  I LOVE being able to drive for field trips, attend Thanksgiving pow-wows, and help with school projects.

* for my iPad.  How did I live without it?

* for Super Target.  It’s my happy place.

* for long, hot bubble baths.

* for this photography hobby of mine.

* for the stick picture drawings that my girlie makes me daily.  I treasure them and all her five year-old artwork.  As a bonus, I’m always skinny and always wearing a dress.

Total Failure

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Family portraits are difficult to coordinate, shop for, and execute.  There is so much pressure to create a lasting family portrait in an hour time frame.   I get that.  Fortunately, I usually get the easy part of that equation: photography.

When I have to shop,  dress, and pretty up three children (who already have a camera in their face daily), it’s like a total failure waiting to happen.  And my Christmas card shoot was a total failure, indeed.  Miss J did not want her hair brushed.  She wanted to wear the orange Halloween shirt that she finds no matter how many times I bury it at the bottom of her dresser.  E-Man was pouting because the shirt was fancy (ie: buttons) and the jeans were scratchy.  Big B slicked his hair down with half a bottle of Crew, then busted out his “I-will-smile-my-cheesiest-smile-so-Mom-is-happy” smile.

The session ended in less than ten minutes, after my entertainer (photo above) started doing the hustle against the wall and waving to every passing car.   Attempt number two is planned.  Wish me luck!

Route 66

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

This little Route 66 gem is part gas station, part diner…a  total feast for eyes with over 600 flavors of bottled soda!  We found Pop’s this summer during a jaunt to OKC, and the kids were in heaven.

The Vampire Wore Saddle Shoes

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

The vampire wore saddle shoes with lacy socks, and I couldn’t help but giggle at the serious clash of personas.  It was 50′s Day for the 50th day of Kindergarten yesterday, and Miss J was quite attached to her saddle shoes.  She went from poodle skirt to fierce vampire in minutes.

My men had a blast trick-or-treating as a Ghostbuster and scary Jester (without the scary….this kid always has a smile on his face).

Thanks for looking!
